So Far So Good

In spite of what you may have heard on the TV ( I recently heard the guy on the Weather Channel mention that Lake Charles had been getting hammered all day ), it has been a good day so far. We had a few sprinkles earlier in the day but about 15 minutes ago it really darkened up and then 10 minutes ago the rain started, but not a hard rain.

Because Louisiana is on the "wrong" side of Ike, we are getting a lot of water. The coastal highway in Cameron was under water this morning, in some places it was covered by 7 feet of water they said. There are places in Lake Charles where the water is much higher than normal.

I've seen reports on TV that they have been recording winds from time to time in this area up to around 30 mph. Currently we are experiencing the highest winds we have experienced all day.

As I was typing that Karen and I both heard a "bump" that sounded like it came from the roof area over the dining room. We went out and investigated but found nothing. I have put my camera out on the back porch and am taking some video right now.

As things change, and assuming we keep power, I will post more updates as needed.

We survived the storm with nothing more than a 2 inch diameter hole in our roof and some water damage on the ceiling in the guest bedroom.

Only got a total of 2.5 inches of rain here in Sulphur so that was very good.

As everybody can probably see in the news reports out of galveston and Houston, they got hit very hard, along with the parish of Cameron here in Louisiana.
